Providence is the capital city of the state of Rhode Island. It is situated in Providence County and covers an area of approximately 20 square miles. The city has a population of around 180,000 people and is known for its historic architecture, thriving arts scene, and diverse culinary offerings.
Providence was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, a religious exile from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The city played an important role in the American Revolution and was a center of manufacturing during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Keches Law Group first expanded into Rhode Island in the early 2000’s due to the proximity to our Taunton, MA headquarters at the time. The city is home to several notable attractions, including the Rhode Island State House, a majestic building that serves as the seat of government for the state of Rhode Island, and WaterFires, a spectacular art installation that features dozens of bonfires on the rivers that run through downtown Providence. Providence is also home to several museums, including the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.
Providence has a well-regarded public school system and is home to several institutions of higher learning, including Providence College, Roger Williams, University of Rhode Island, Salve Regina, Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design.
