Taunton Workers’ Compensation

You are here: Home / Communities Served / Taunton Workers’ Compensation

Taunton, Massachusetts is one of the oldest towns in the United States of America, making it a town with a long and rich history. It is located in the Bristol County of Massachusetts; it is approximately 40 miles South of Boston, 18 miles East of Providence, and 25 miles West of Plymouth It overlooks the Taunton River, a valuable ecological resource and historically abundant watercourse that flows into Mount Hope Bay. Taunton is sometimes referred to as the Silver City; Taunton was an epicenter of silver industry in the 19th century. Many large and well-known silver companies laid their foundations there, such as Reed & Barton, F.B. Rogers, and Poole Silver. Reed & Barton produced the silverware made exclusively for the White House, as well as the 1996 Summer Olympics medals.

In recent years, however, Taunton has become a hub for manufacturing, particularly of electronics, silicon, and semiconductors, as well as sales and related occupations, administrative occupations, and construction and extraction occupations. It also has a significant transportation and warehousing sector. In Taunton, Norton, and Raynham, there are 42,800 workers employed, and approximately 4,390 of those workers are employed in transportation and material moving occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Taunton Workers? May Be At Risk

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report in 2014 on occupational injuries and illnesses that resulted in days away from work; transportation and warehousing had 95,040 injuries and illnesses nationwide in 2014, which equates to an incidence rate of 225.2 per 10,000 full-time workers. This is the highest reported among private industries.

Were You Hurt At Work?

Jobs in the Transportation and Warehousing sector put workers at risk on a daily basis. Falls are one of the biggest causes for work-related injuries nationwide, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In transportation and warehousing, the rate of falls on the same level increased from 28.3 in 2013 to 30.4 in 2014. This was the second year in a row with an increase in transportation occupations. Other causes of workplace injuries include:

  • Musculoskeletal disorders, or MSDs, which accounted for 40 percent of injuries and illnesses in transportation and warehousing nationwide in 2014.
  • Contact with objects, which had an incidence rate of 43.0 in transportation and warehousing nationwide in 2014
  • Overexertion in lifting or lowering, which had an incidence rate of 30.8 in transportation and warehousing nationwide in 2014.
