Keches Law Group secured a $7.25 million judgment in a landlord negligence case involving a dangerous dog attack on an 11-year-old tenant in a common backyard.
On December 20, 2020, our 11-year-old client was playing in the backyard of his residence when he was attacked by two dangerous dogs owned by other tenants in the building.
The plaintiff alleged that the landlord was aware that dangerous dogs were being kept in another unit and failed to take reasonable steps to remove the dogs or their owners, or otherwise protect tenants from harm. The defendant denied knowledge of the dogs’ dangerous propensities and disputed any negligence.
As a result of the attack, the minor suffered significant injuries, including permanent scarring to his neck, arms, legs, and groin.
Our team took this case to trial and secured a $5.1 million verdict after a one-week trial. With interest, the total judgment will be $7.25 million, reflecting the severity of the injuries and the defendant’s failure to ensure tenant safety.
