Brockton Workers’ Compensation

You are here: Home / Communities Served / Brockton Workers’ Compensation

Brockton, sometimes called “The City of Champions,” is located in the Plymouth County of Massachusetts. Brockton’s nickname stems from the fact that Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler were born and bred there. At the time of the 2010 Census, the population was 93,810, and according to the American Community Survey 5-year estimate, it had grown to 94,267 in 2014, making Brockton the seventh largest city in Massachusetts. An interesting fact about Brockton is that it is among the windiest cities in the United States; the average wind speed is 14.3 mph!

Brockton, Bridgewater, Easton, and the surrounding towns and cities employ about 91,600 workers in various occupations and fields. Of the most occupied sectors, Production Occupations and Transportation and Material Moving Occupations are major sectors in the area, employing 6,140 and 8,340 workers, respectively. These sectors include jobs such as:

  • Electrical and electronic equipment assemblers,
  • Computer-controlled machine tool operators, metal and plastic;
  • Laborers and freight, stock, and material movers;
  • Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers,
  • And taxi drivers and chauffeurs.

Many more jobs are included in this occupational sector, and all pose their own unique risks to workers.

Brockton Workers Risk Injuries At Work

According to a news release by The Bureau Of Labor Statistics in 2014, workers in Production occupations reported 108,130 incidents of nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses involving days away from work. In addition, there were 203,180 incidents in Transportation and material moving occupations. The incidence rates for these sectors were 136.5 and 246.7, respectively. With these sectors being so occupied in the Brockton area, there is real cause for concern for workers in the aforementioned occupations, and many more.

Were You Hurt At Work?

The statistics show that workers in Production Occupations and Transportation and Material Moving Occupations face risks at work each day. Some injuries are due to unavoidable risks and faultless accidents; others are due to an employer not following OSHA safety protocols. Some of the most frequently cited OSHA standards violated in 2015 included:

  • Hazard communication standard,
  • Respiratory protection,
  • Control of hazardous energy (lockout/tagout),
  • Powered industrial trucks,
  • Electrical, wiring methods, components and equipment;
  • Machinery and Machine Guarding, and
  • Electrical systems design

All of these violations can put workers in Production Occupations and Transportation and Material Moving Occupations in danger of illness, injury, or even death.
