A federal judge awarded $10,000,000 to a 17-year-old student shot by a former English High School Dean.
On August 5, 2022, a federal judge ordered Shaun O. Harrison, a former English High School Dean, to pay Luis "Angel" Rodriguez $10 million in compensatory damages for shooting the then 17-year-old student in the back of the head at point-blank range on March 3, 2015, in Roxbury Massachusetts.
O $10 million was comprised of $7.5 million for Rodriguez's physical pain and suffering and emotional distress and $2.5 million in punitive damages.
Abusing the position of trust and authority he'd established, Harrison offered Rodriguez an illegal opportunity to make money by selling marijuana.
Eventually, this transactional relationship took a turn when Harrison accused Rodriguez of stealing, and Rodriguez complained the deal was unfairly unbalanced. When Rodriguez learned Harrison owned a firearm and was a member of the East Coast Latin Kings gang, Rodriguez made it clear he was not interested in associating with gangs or guns.
On March 3, 2015, Harrison and Rodriguez met at a gas station. Harrison went to make a phone call, and while he did so, Rodriguez turned the other way. Then Harrison shot Rodriguez in the back of his head at point-blank range.
Since the near-death shooting, Rodriguez has endured significant injuries and immense emotional and physical pain and suffering that still affects him today.
