Joseph C. Ferreira

Senior Attorney

Attorney Joe Ferreira has been practicing law since 1993. Throughout three decades, Attorney Ferreira has represented litigants in all aspects of civil litigation, including wrongful death actions, medical malpractice, personal injury, negligent security, dog bite cases, domestic restraining order cases, harassment prevention orders, and matters before the Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Massachusetts Board of Appeal. After retiring as a Chief of Police in 2014, Attorney Ferreira has also defended individuals charged with various crimes.   

In 2022 one of Attorney Ferreira’s clients settled a negligent security rape case for $6,000,000, and in 2023 another client settled a wrongful death truck case for $8,500,000.

Since 2015 Attorney Ferreira has been an elected member of the Massachusetts Governor’s Council, representing approximately 850,000 constituents throughout 47 Cities and Towns. In that capacity, he votes on whether to provide advice and consent to every Governor’s Judicial nominees for all judicial seats in the Commonwealth (250 from 2015-2022), Clerk Magistrate nominations, Parole Board nominations, Appellate Tax Board nominations, Justices of the Peace and Notary nominations, and all Governor nominations for commutations and pardons. Attorney Ferreira has won 5 consecutive 2-year terms and looks forward to continuing to grant advice and consent to outstanding candidates.   

Attorney Ferreira became a full-time police officer in 1985 and became Chief of Police in Somerset in 2005. When he graduated from law school in 1992, he took leave to serve as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court in Massachusetts. Attorney Ferreira later served as a Special Prosecutor for the Bristol County District Attorney.
